26/08/2007 Knebworth Classic The long awaited summer finally arrived for us over the August bank holiday weekend and the weather for the Sunday was glorious. While the sunshine undoubtedly encourages people out, I think that the 37 cars that attended the Knebworth Classic and Sports Car show came out for much more than a bit of sunshine.
We seemed to attract people from all over, borrowing people from other regions such as Northampton, Peterborough, Uxbridge, Essex and Middlesex.
The spread of cars was superb from Richard’s 3000M to a visiting Sagaris with everything in between represented at least once. We had what is believed to be the oldest surviving Chimera, understood to be one of the two original motor show cars.
We had 10 or 11 first time visitors to a Herts and Beds event and I hope it wont be their last as the friendly and welcoming spirit of the region was clearly evident. The show is one of the biggest classic shows on the calendar. It was a great day with a huge variance of other cars to see from Model T Fords onwards. It was good to see that there were more TVR’s than any other single manufacturer and we were without doubt the largest club showing.
As it is the 60th anniversary year I did consider rounding up some of the cars to do a timeline in the parade ring, we decided against it when I was reminded that the turning circle on a Tuscan would make getting around the arena without doughnuts a bit difficult and that the organisers may frown on that sort of behaviour.

04/08/2007 Diamond Rock At the beginning of August, there was of course Diamond Rock, with a convoy of nine cars going up on Saturday morning, more on Sunday and a few of us already there from Friday, we had a brilliant time. Brian and Dawn will never let me live down the complete tour of Rockingham to find an open toilet only to find that the ones in the paddock were open all the time and that their idiot leader had only tried the Disabled ones Doh!
Saturday evening saw the three of us joined by Alex, Phil and Sam, Gazman and our adopted race driver George and two new friends that Phil and Sam met at the hotel. After liberal amounts of alcohol we all took to the track and set about forming a parade lap before all crashing into each other. Fortunately we were on the bumper cars at the time.
To be part of the record attempt was spectacular even as one of those nutters in an orange vest gesticulating frantically at the participants to get onto the track. Personally, getting involved made the weekend, from gate duty first thing Saturday morning, helping get cars on the track on Sunday and becoming a pit monkey for George on Sunday this was one great weekend.
To get sentimental for a moment, I haven’t had the TVR long, in fact I became RO in December only two months after buying the car, what I hadn’t realised then was that the car is great but it has become a great vehicle (pun intended) for making great friends. I echo the sentiments of our Chairman when he said that TVR was as much about the owners as the cars themselves.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I too salute you, onwards to the next 60 years!
